How We Met
We first met online, Via ICQ during Christmas vacation when I was living in Fond Du Lac. This was in late December 2000 and early January 2001. I was in the Web Developer program and the Graphics program at Moraine Park Technical College. Chris was also taking a couple classes in the web develper program but not as many as I was. One of the web development teachers told Chris about the Tech Support job at the school, and told him he would be good at it. He decided to apply for the job and he got it.
My mom was visiting with me over Christmas break, and she got me a new office chair. I remember I was putting it together when I got my first icq message from Chris. I was putting the chair together in the dark, and that is why the Right arm in on the Left side and the Left arm is on the right side(still are by the way). His first message to me was something like "So you like HTML, I'm guessing?".. (In my online profile with ICQ I had HTML and javascript as some of my interests as well as a link to my crazy big personal website.. this was before the time of blogs people, Marnie's Kingdom.. i won a computer for that website) anyway.. back to the story about chris and I... I thought it was so sweet. How he was asking me about my interests instead of asking to see a picture of me or asking what i look like. We chatted that first night for quite awhile. Then the next night.. and the next one.. and pretty much every night then on..
He had told me he just got a job at Moraine Park and when school was going to start up in a few weeks that he would be setting up my class I had on Saturday mornings. I was nervous about meeting Chris in real life. I still remember where I was sitting on that Saturday morning and I remember walking into the room like 15 minutes before class started. Chris was in the front of the room setting up the tv's and the microphones. I thought he was so cute, err... umm.. i mean handsome, and I was nervous to talk with him. I knew I would make a fool of myself. Part of me wanted so bad to stay after class and talk with him, but the other part of me wanted to bolt. Class got done early that day.. So the waiting for a few minutes got me listening to the side of me that wanted to run. I regretted not staying after class and talking to Chris once i got back to my apartment. We still talked online every night..
The next Saturday, I told myself i was going to stay and talk to him. And i did. I was walking back and forth in the hallway between the two buildings. O building and A building. Chris would have been walking from the A building (where his office was) to the O building (where my class was and the doors to the parking lot where my car was parked).. You could probably watch me.. walking towards A building I would be nervous and excited.. then i would turn around and walk the other way towards O building I would be thinking about going to the car and doing what I did the week before. Anyway.. he came and said something about me staying this time.. Then he took me on a tour threw the new Cyber Center (this is the area that he was setting up when he first started the job. It is an area next to the cafeteria with tables and computers for students to use. It was being built when I was taking my first semester classes. Then we went to KFC for lunch. That would be my first time at a KFC. We ate and had a nice lunch telling stories and talking non stop.. He probably took a 2 hour lunch break that day... Then he said that he should get back to work and asked if I wanted to hang out when he got done with work.. I gave him my address and he said that he would be done at around 4ish. I lived only 3 or 4 blocks from school.
I was putting together a puzzle on my kitchen table when he came knocking on my door. So we sat and talked and put together some more of the puzzle that night.. talking talking talking.. Then I took him on a short driving tour of Fond Du Lac. (It was dark out.. it might have been like 10pm at night).. Then he took me on a driving tour of west bend.. West bend is nearly 45 minutes from Fond Du Lac.. As we went past car parts stores, he would recite the phone numbers to those stores.. He was fixing cars a lot at that time. He had to, he was driving the Saturn and when the Saturn was broken (it was broken a lot), he would drive the Chevy celebrity. We were driving a lot that night.. Gas was a lot cheaper back then.. probably a buck a gallon.. He brought me back to my apartment at around probably 2am. I remember we held hands on that car ride back to Fond Du Lac. So sweet! He walked me to my door. First kiss by my door. Awww!!! He went back home then.. And we still chatted online that night too.. and that would be the story of how we met and our first day together.
